Twilight Director not returning for a sequel

This news from Variety. Twilight helmer Catherine Hardwick will not be returning to direct the Twilight sequel (New Moon). Hardwicke reportedly wanted more time to work on it but the studio has an intended release date (already) for the end of 2009 or the beginning of 2010.
Has anyone heard of the best things comes to those who wait? Why would you want to rush a sequel? Taking your time means re-releases and merchandise sales. Complete madness. Twilight review is coming soon.
