Sadly the big screen adaptation of The Sweeney has been put on hold by Fox Searchlight (according to Digital Spy). Ray Winstone was set to star as the unstoppable and controversial Jack Regan. I’m not sure how popular the show is outside the UK, but trust me when I say it was a terrific show. The character of Jack Regan directly influencing characters in more modern counterparts (such as Gene Hunt from “Life on Mars”). Let’s hope Fox Searchlight get off their backsides and produce this film soon.

The delay is due to the fear that it would not have global appeal and so the thought is to incorporate some “bigger names”. I’m just hoping that they don’t recast Regan. Ray Winstone is the very man to do the job. Maybe Jason Statham could play George Carter
