Solomon Kane poster and it looks like Van Helsing
Am I the only one who thinks James Purefoy looks very much like Thomas Jane (from the Punisher)?
The first poster for Solomon Kane (released late 2009 / 2010) merely looks like a second coming for Van Helsing!
Nevertheless I won’t be too harsh…yet. You would think though, that the marketing chaps responsible for this poster (above) would think of a unique design for their “unique” film.

Van Helsing looks like Solomon Kane and not the other way round. Solomon Kane is a character from the short-stories of Robert E. Howard in the 1930′s. Van Helsing is a rip-off from the looks that Garry Gianni gave Solomon Kane in his artworks, long before Van Helsing film was being shot.
Interesting history. However surely there is a great worry that many will flock to Solomon Kane in the hope of seeing a Van Helsing 2.
Rightly or wrongly Van Helsing came first in film history. Surely this would be the ideal time to unique-ify Kane’s outfit for cinema!
Why the hell should an 80-year-old literary character have to change his appearance just because of an earlier film which was itself heavily inspired by him? That’s like saying you should re-imagine Allan Quatermain’s costume because people would think it’s an Indiana Jones ripoff, or redesign Batman because of Nite Owl.
Kane’s costume was fine as it was 80 years ago, and it’s fine now. Changing it now because some other film happened to rip off Gary Gianni’s illustrations is putting the cart before the horse.
I think if you write a blog about pop culture, you should know a little about it. Van Helsing was a corny rip off which should be forgotten.
Thats the guy from HUNG on HBO.
